Transport license of the European Union

Companies that are going to be engaged in transportation of goods within the European Union should have a transport license. The license  is issued by the State Transport Inspectorate of the Republic of Lithuania.

Types of licenses:
- The licenses for the transportation of goods on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania by vehicles with a permitted weight more than 3,5 tons;
- The license for the transportation of goods within the European Union by vehicles with a permitted weight more than 3,5 tons;

Transport license is not needed:

- For the transportation of drugs that are needed for first aid on the disaster area.
- For post transportation, if permitted weight of the vehicle does not exceed 3,5 tons;
- For transportation of vehicles, that have been involved in car accidents.

The license is issued for the period of 10 years. The company, which received the license, during one month should get a copy of the license, otherwise the license will be invalid. A new license can be obtained only after 1 year. A copy of the license is valid as long, as transport license is valid.

Within 1 month after receiving of the application the State Transport Inspectorate of the Republic of Lithuania issued the license or refuse to issue it (which happens very often), indicating the reasons in written form.

The issue of license is denied:

• If a legal person has provided false information about itself;
• In the company there is no necessary person with a certificate of professional competence.
• The company lost the license less than 1 year ago;
• The company has poor financial condition;
• The company does not have the document, confirming the excellent reputation;
  etc.
